Loss of Regulatory Control of a Cesium-137 Source, Rosario

On Tuesday, June 16, a Cesium-137 source (an artificial radioactive material) used for the calibration of nuclear medicine equipment was subject to unauthorized removal from a healthcare institution in the city of Rosario, province of Santa Fe, Argentina. As a result, the Argentine Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ARN) activated the corresponding radiological emergency response protocols. As of today, the source has not yet been located. Therefore, any information regarding its whereabouts should be reported to the ARN’s Radiological Emergency Response System.
